Obituary

Jasmine, you were the most singular creature I have ever loved. In the eighteen years I knew you: we grew up together— you from a little ball of terror to salt-and-pepper fur, and me from a kid who always got into trouble with you to a grown-up who knew your heart. When time had kissed all the black and tan from your furnished little face and slowed your body but not your spirit or mind, I was your advocate. When I was at my lowest points, with you curled into a small ball of fur at my side, you were my reason. Through it all you were my best friend, and I was, gladly, your girl. You were the best thing to ever grace my life, and I am glad I was granted the time to teach you to love fetch, sunbathing, and a freshly seared pork chop. My fierce, tenacious, sweet baby; there won't be a day that goes by that I don't think of your weight in my arms and your collar tinkling at my heels. Rest now, my little menace, I am always right there with you— my hands stroking your head and my tears in your fur. You were always so strong, so now we will be strong for you. There is a little bit of you in everything I do; you were mine, and I will forever be yours.

PS: Don't worry— I will make sure to always firmly admonish any squirrels I see in your stead. And any particularly audacious joggers. Love you, baby.
